Popular Comedian, Koffi Idowu-Nuel, has said that no normal individual ought to have supported the supposed activities of artist, Naira Marley.
The comedian was talking at a memorial lecture organised for reggae legend, Ras Kimono, by the Copyright Society of Nigeria (COSON) on Monday.
Talking about the decrease in ubiquity of reggae music, he stated: “The music being made today is to vanquish dejection, there’s a distinction.”
He said that a lot of people listen to music today just to dance without appreciating the spiritual essence of music.
Continuing his address, he added: “Within 24 hours of Naira Marley’s arrest, it was as though they (people) were canvassing for (Nelson) Mandela.
“A lot of the youths are so depressed that the only place they find solace is in that activity the boy (Naira Marley) was talking about.”
Koffi said the youth see Marley as a sort of champion.
“If society was sane, no sane person would support what that boy (Naira Marley) was saying,” he said.
Naira is still in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission despite being granted bail by a Lagos High Court on May 31.
